Medical expenses

The extra cover for medical costs is an additional cover for the annual travel insurance. If you regularly travel outside The Netherlands it is often handy to take out this cover. Your health insurance will only cover the amount you would have to pay if you were treated in the Netherlands. Additional costs you have to pay yourself. This amount can add up quickly. Example: admission to hospital for appendicitis in the USA costs €50,000. In the Netherlands, it costs €2,500. If you don’t have cover for medical costs as part of your travel insurance, you will have to pay the difference of €47,500 yourself. With the additional cover for medical costs all costs will be covered by your insurance.

  • Cost of search and rescue operations for missing and/or lost persons
  • Cost of transporting your body back to the Netherlands
  • Returning luggage to the rightful owners
  • Visitation costs in case of hospitalisation
  • Prepaid diving fees if you are no longer able to dive
