How we can help in the event of a cancelled flight or holiday

  • You will have a designated contact person who will be on hand to answer your questions
  • Emergency assistance is available 24/7
  • In the event that you, a family member or a travel companion's dies, suffers an illness or is involved in an accident, we will reimburse the cancellation fee
  • If you become pregnant after you booked the trip, we will refund the cancellation fee
  • The cancellation fee will be reimbursed if you are unexpectedly assigned a recognised adoptive child, meaning the trip cannot go ahead
  • If you, your partner or your child need to undergo unexpected surgery, we will refund the cancellation fee

What is covered:

  • Serious illness or an accident
  • Pregnancy after your trip was booked
  • Going home earlier due to serious damage to your (rented) property
  • Damage to your holiday home
  • Cancellation due to involuntary unemployment

What is not covered:

  • Travel to an area for which the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised against travel. You can check this at netherlandsworldwide.nl
  • An event that could have been foreseen at the time of booking the trip or taking out the cancellation insurance (e.g. unemployment)
  • Bankruptcy of the tour operator

We also reimburse:

  • Cancellation fee if you are advised by a doctor not to have a compulsory vaccination before travel
  • Cancellation fee if your visa is rejected and it is not your fault
  • Cancellation fee if your vehicle breaks down within 30 days before the start of the journey and repair or replacement cannot be arranged on time

Flight delayed?

A cancellation insurance policy can also be useful in the event of delays. Delayed for more than 8 hours? You will be reimbursed for part of your travel sum if:

  • you travel by plane, bus, train or boat
  • your trip lasts longer than 3 days

Frequently asked questions about cancelled flights and holidays

You choose the amount that your cancellation insurance will insure. For short-term travel insurance, this can be up to €20,000 per trip. For annual travel insurance, this can be €1,500 or €3,000 per person per trip.

Don't have a travel insurance policy yet? You can also take out a travel insurance policy with us. 

  • Do you cancel your trip before departure? And will part of the costs be reimbursed by the organization with which the trip was booked? Then we only reimburse your part of the travel sum.
  • If you cut the trip short or have to cancel the entire trip, we will only reimburse the part of the travel sum for the missed travel days.
  • If there is a hospital admission including at least one overnight stay, we will only reimburse the part of the travel sum for the hospital admission days for all insured parties.
  • Delayed by more than 8 hours by plane, bus, train or boat to your destination? For a delay of up to 20 hours, we will only reimburse the part of the travel sum corresponding to 1 day. For a delay of between 20 and 32 hours, we will only reimburse the part of the travel sum corresponding to 2 days. For a delay of more than 32 hours, we will only reimburse the part of the travel sum corresponding to 3 days.
  • With the annual travel insurance a maximum insured amount per person per trip applies to cancellation fees. This amount is specified on your policy. We will never pay out more than this amount for cancellation fees.
  • With the short-term cancellation insurance a maximum insured amount per trip applies to cancellation fees. This amount is specified on your policy. We will never pay out more than this amount for cancellation fees.

Report your cancellation

Your short-term cancellation insurance will start on the effective date of the insurance policy that you selected. This date is specified on your policy. Cancellation cover must be effective within 7 days of booking a trip. The insurance will end automatically on the end date that you specified.

Your annual cancellation insurance will start on the effective date of the insurance policy that you selected. This date is specified on your policy. Cancellation cover must be effective within 7 days of booking a trip. You may cancel your annual cancellation insurance policy one year after the effective date. You do not need to give a reason for cancelling your policy.
