Risks and terms and conditions

You should only invest capital that you have over and above your buffer for unforeseen expenses. Investing can be interesting, but it is not without risk. You may lose (a part of) your investment. It is good to be aware of this. We recommend that you only invest in investment products that match your knowledge and experience.

With Self-directed Investing Basic, you make your choices without advice from us. Do you know the risks of investing? That means you are better able to determine whether you want to run those risks and prevent yourself facing any surprises. We have listed the most common risks for you.

What does Self-Directed Investing Basic cost?

Overview of costs you pay us

Transaction costs per order

  • Investment funds: € 0
  • Shares: €5 + 0.05% on the value of the order, per order
  • ETFs: € 0

Service costs

  1. Service costs per year: 0.20% of the value of your investment portfolio up to €100,000
  2. Between €100,000 and €400,000 the service costs are 0.12%
  3. from €400,000 the service costs are 0.06%

You pay us service costs and transaction costs. Service costs are costs for the administration of your investment portfolio and the information we provide about it. You pay transaction costs when buying and selling your shares. You do not pay transaction costs when buying and selling investment funds and ETFs.

This is what you pay to other parties

Do you have investment funds or ETFs in your portfolio? Please keep take into account the following costs:

  • Management and administration costs. We call these the running costs.
  • Costs for buying and selling of investments: the transaction costs within the fund.

These costs are already included in the price of the investment fund. The Essential Investor Information for each fund states the costs.

You pay costs for investing. These lower your return. You also run risks with investing. Therefore, consider whether investing is (still) appropriate for you. Or whether saving might be a better solution for you.

Reduction of rate for foreign shares

From 20 July 2023, the rate for foreign shares has been adjusted for Self-directed Investing Basic. We are reducing the transaction costs for foreign share transactions for Germany, United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Spain and United States from €10 + 0.10% to €5 + 0.05%. With this, we equalise the transaction costs for domestic and foreign share transactions for the Self-directed Investing Basic selection.

You can find the rate card here .

Example calculation of the costs

ABN AMRO uses sample profiles to give you a clear idea of the annual costs of investing. These sample profiles show the projected annual costs if you invest in the same (or nearly the same) way as the sample profile. We’ll present a few sample profiles, each of which has its own specific features.

Select the profile that best suits your investment portfolio and investment behaviour. The annual costs in the sample profile will closely resemble the costs that you will be charged. This gives you an idea of how much investing will cost, before you actually start.

Impact of costs on your returns

This calculation example shows the influence of all costs on the return on your investment. We use a fixed return of 4% per year for this. Your actual return may therefore be different. This fixed return allows you to make a proper comparison between our costs and those of other providers of investment services.

This is not a prediction, but a sample calculation. If the return is higher or lower than in this example, the costs will generally also be higher or lower.
