How we will help you when you incur car damage

We always provide personal assistance and fast claim settlement. All you need to do is file the claim and we will take care of the rest. To make your claiming process an easy one, you will have:

  • A dedicated point of contact who will answer any questions you may have.
  • Access to our 24/7 emergency line.
  • A courtesy car so you can get around while your car is being repaired. The lessor can apply a deductible. You can sometimes cancel or reduce this deductible for a fee.
  • A 4-year warranty on the repair.
  • Fire, storm and window damage do not affect your no-claims bonus or your claim-free years.

What is covered and what is not

The limited and comprehensive covers include coverage for:

  • Damage caused by fire, lightning, explosion or short circuits
  • Damage caused by hail, your car skidding off the road or objects falling on your car due to a storm
  • Damage caused by earthquake, volcanic eruption and flooding
  • Damage caused by an avalanche or by rocks falling from a mountain

The limited and comprehensive covers do not include coverage for:

  • Damage incurred in a country that is not listed on the green card
  • Damage to an accessory that is fitted to the exterior of the car
  • Damage incurred before the start or after termination of your insurance

Add-on covers

If you would like to include additional cover options, choose an add-on such as passenger cover to ensure that you and your fellow passengers are also covered against injuries and losses sustained during an accident, for example. Or choose for other add-ons, such as legal or breakdown cover.

ABN AMRO Claims Service

You will not be required to pay an excess if your car is repaired by a body shop that we have chosen specifically for you. Only window replacement is subject to an excess of €75. There is always a body shop from the ABN AMRO network located near your place of residence. If you do not use the ABN AMRO Claims Service, you will be required to pay an excess of €150.

Frequently asked questions about car damage caused by natural disasters

Yes. You insure your car, and it does not matter who drives the covered car, as long as they have permission to do so and they have a valid driving licence.

Yes. The limited and comprehensive policy plans offer you international coverage for car damage incurred in a natural disaster.
Have you only incurred window damage as a result of a natural disaster, such as a fallen branch?  
Window cover is only available on limited and comprehensive policy plans.
  • Repair possible: the cost of repair will be paid
  • No repair possible: a new window will be fitted

Does your policy state that your car is insured at current value? 
  • The car is a total loss or the damage exceeds 2/3rd of the purchase value: you will receive the current market value of the car
  • The damage is less than 2/3rd of the purchase value: you will receive the cost of repair

Does your policy state that your car is insured at purchase value? And was your car bought from a car dealer listed with the Chamber of Commerce?
  • The car is a total loss or the damage exceeds 2/3rd of the purchase value: you will receive the purchase value of the car
  • The damage is less than 2/3rd of the purchase value: you will receive the cost of repair

Other situations
  • The car is a total loss or the damage exceeds 2/3rd of the purchase value: you will receive the replacement value + 10%
  • The damage is less than 2/3rd of the purchase value: you will receive the cost of repair

Third-Party Liability Cover only covers damage you cause to other people and is therefore not subject to an excess.

With Third-Party Liability + Limited Cover and Third-Party Liability + Comprehensive Cover, you have an excess of €150 per occurrence in the event of a claim. If you have the damage to your car fixed through the ABN AMRO Claims Service, then this excess will lapse. This does not apply to window replacement, however, for which the excess is €75.

If your car is adequately secured, you do not have to pay an excess in case of theft, attempted theft, break-in or joyriding. The Motor Vehicle Certification Foundation has determined different security classes. If your car does not meet any of them, you will have an excess of 2.5% of your car's daily value and pay a minimum excess of €375.

If you have taken out the additional breakdown coverage and you get a temporary replacement car in case of damage, the rental company may have set an excess. Sometimes it is possible to reduce this excess for a fee.

No. An alarm system is not required. However, if your car is adequately secured, you do not have to pay an excess in case of theft, attempted theft, break-in or joyriding. The Dutch Motor Vehicle Certification Association (Stichting Certificering Motorrijtuigen, SCM) has defined different security classes. If your car does not have an SCM-certified security system, your insurance will still pay for any damage caused to your car by theft. But if your car is not adequately secured, your excess will be equal to 2.5% of the list value (subject to a minimum of € 375). Click here for more information about anti-theft security systems.

What to do in the event of a breakdown

A dead battery, flat tyre or damage after an accident? It can happen to anyone. Fortunately, you and your car will not be stranded for long thanks to our prompt roadside assistance. If your car refuses to budge for whatever reason, we will provide you with a courtesy car to help get you back on the road as quickly as possible.
