How to become a Preferred Banking client

1. Check whether you meet the criteria

When you open your current account, we’ll ask for information about the income you receive on a monthly basis in your ABN AMRO account. Make sure the amount you enter is correct.

Preferred Banking is for ABN AMRO clients who meet the following criteria: they are aged over 18, live in the Netherlands, and have €100,000 or more in liquid assets and/or have a personal ABN AMRO account into which a minimum amount of money* is paid each month.

*Minimum total amount paid monthly into bank account, according to age and household composition.
**Two people aged 18 or above, living at the same address in the Netherlands, both of whom have a personal account and/or joint account at ABN AMRO.

If you have a business account, are an expat or work as a medical professional, we regret to inform you that you can’t become a Preferred Banking client just yet. We’re working hard to make sure you can access Preferred Banking in the future.

2. Fill in the form

Log in using the ABN AMRO app or Internet Banking. By filling in the form, you confirm that you wish to become a Preferred Banking client and meet the criteria. Make sure you enter your email address correctly.

3. Deposit your income or assets in your current account

Congratulations! You’re now a Preferred Banking client and can access COACH, SMART and BENEFITS. 

  • Get exclusive access to a team of Preferred Banking advisers and chat with them about your financial goals and dreams 
  • Discover articles, videos and podcasts full of tips and info to improve your financial literacy 
  • Benefit from unique discounts on culture, sport and financial products 

Within the next two weeks, we’ll send you a welcome email to provide more information about Preferred Banking and the benefits you can access. 

You must meet the criteria at all times in order to remain a Preferred Banking client. We’ll check this each year, so please make sure your monthly income continues to be paid into your new current account or your assets remain above the threshold.
