General questions

Cardless cash is a way of withdrawing money at a Geldmaat machine. You scan the QR code on the Geldmaat machine using the ABN AMRO app on your mobile phone. You do not need your plastic debit card for this.
You can use cardless cash if you are a private client, you have an ABN AMRO current account, you have installed the ABN AMRO app and you are aged 16 years or older. You can use cardless cash if you have an Android or iOS phone.
Cash remains legal tender, so you can continue to withdraw cash at any time. Moreover, ABN AMRO believes that cash plays an important role in society. That is why ABN AMRO is constantly looking for new ways for clients to withdraw money easily and safely. Clients can continue to withdraw cash using their debit card. There are also new options that do not require a debit card.
Currently, ABN AMRO is the only bank in the Netherlands that allows you to withdraw money using your mobile phone at a Geldmaat machine. When abroad, you need a debit card to withdraw cash.
There are no additional costs attached to cardless cash. Cardless cash is included in the Basic Payment Package. ABN AMRO offers this extra service so that you can withdraw money using your mobile phone. 
Cardless cash is included in the ABN AMRO Payment Services Terms for Private Clients (8.1).

Activating and removing cardless cash

You do not need to activate cardless cash. This function appears automatically as soon as you scan the QR code on the ATM using the ABN AMRO app on your phone.
You cannot delete cardless cash from your mobile phone. You can choose not to use cardless cash, just like the plastic debit card you can use to withdraw money. If you want to deactivate cardless cash, please call us.

Withdrawing money

1. Go to a Geldmaat machine. 
2. On the machine, select 'Without debit card'.
3. Select again 'Without a debit card'. A QR code will appear on the Geldmaat.
4. Scan the QR code using the ABN AMRO app on your phone.  The 'Cardless cash' screen will appear on your phone.
5. Tap 'Continue'. 
6. Log into the ABN AMRO app using your identification code. 
7. Now select the account from which you want to withdraw money.
8. Select the amount you want to withdraw and tap 'Confirm and continue'.
9. Tap 'Withdraw money'.
10. Confirm your 'order' by logging into the ABN AMRO app again using your identification code.
11. Take your money from the Geldmaat.
Scan the QR code using the ABN AMRO app on your mobile phone. Then continue in the ABN AMRO app. In the app, select the current account and the amount you want to withdraw from the Geldmaat.
Using cardless cash, you can withdraw up to € 500 per account at a time. If you adjusted your daily limit for withdrawing money from an ATM (in ABN AMRO or Internet Banking), you cannot withdraw more than that limit. 
 
Example: You set your card limit to € 250 per day. You cannot withdraw more than €250 per day using cardless cash. 
No. Currently, you can only make cardless cash withdrawals at Geldmaat machines in the Netherlands.

A withdrawal without a debit card is described on your statement as 'Opnemen Zonder Betaalpas' (in Dutch).

If something goes wrong, you can stop the cash withdrawal on the Geldmaat machine or in your ABN AMRO app. You can start the cardless cash withdrawal process again by scanning a new QR code.

Using cardless cash

No, you don’t need a plastic debit card for the withdrawal itself, but you must have an active plastic debit card. You can make withdrawals without using a debit card up to the payment limit you have set for your active plastic debit card.
No, you do not need to enter your PIN code for your plastic debit card. You log into the ABN AMRO app using your security code, facial recognition or fingerprint. You then select the current account and the amount you want to withdraw from the Geldmaat machine.
Yes, you can make cardless cash withdrawals from your personal account or your joint account.
No. Currently, you can only make cardless cash withdrawals from a private current account. We expect to be able to offer clients the option to make cardless cash withdrawals from a business current account in the future.
No. You can only use cardless cash to withdraw cash at a Geldmaat machine.
No, you need an internet connection in order to make cardless cash withdrawals.

Security

We believe, just like you, that secure banking is very important. Cardless cash withdrawals are therefore just as safe as withdrawing money using your plastic debit card. Cardless cash complies with the latest security requirements. 
 
A unique QR code appears on the Geldmaat machine and is linked to the current account from which you want to withdraw the amount. If you do not use the Geldmaat for five minutes, you will be logged out automatically. This ensures nobody else can use your QR code.  
 
NB: we do everything we can to make banking on your mobile phone secure. It's equally important that you are aware of how you can keep your device secure, so be sure to read our information on secure mobile banking. 
No. Only you can log into the app, and to do your banking using the app you need to log in using your identification code, fingerprint or Face ID.
 
Lost your phone? Track your phone and make sure no one can use it. Call your provider and have your SIM card blocked. If you have the ABN AMRO app on your phone, delete the device registration from your lost phone for the ABN AMRO app through Internet Banking.
If you think fraud has taken place, you can set your card limits for ATMs to 0. You can do this through the ABN AMRO app. 
 
• Log into the ABN AMRO app. 
• Tap 'Self service'.
• Tap 'Debit cards'.
• Tap the correct debit card.
• Tap 'Limit for cash withdrawals' and change the amount to 0.
