If you connect the e.dentifier to your computer with the USB cable when doing your online banking, that means you have the necessary software installed on your computer. A new version of this software is now available. Update your software to be sure you are using the most up-to-date and therefore secure software.
As the software for use of the e.dentifier in connected mode is installed on your computer, you will receive an automatic notification of the software update. A message will appear on your screen 30 minutes after you switch on your computer. You can see what the message looks like here . When you click on the message, you will be given step-by-step instructions on how to update the software on your computer. This will take a few minutes. Or you can go to this page to perform the update at a time of your choosing.
The updated software for use of the e.dentifier in connected mode contains a number of new security updates.
If you haven't performed the software yet, you will not be able to use the e.dentifier in connected mode until you have installed the updated. You will then receive a message every day telling you that the software update is available.
When the e.dentifier is connected to your computer, the e.dentifier screen will give you information about the action you are performing (logging in or making a payment) or the payment (number of payments and total amount). You can see precisely what is happening.
In other words, in the connected mode, the payments shown on your computer screen are confirmed on the screen of the e.dentifier. This provides an additional check which makes it more difficult for fraudsters to mislead you. That's because installing fraudulent software on both your computer and the e.dentifier is highly complicated.
Using the e.dentifier in connected mode also makes things simpler: you only need to enter codes once rather than having to do so for each payment. That's especially useful when you are making lots of payments at the same time.
